What is the Youth Advisory Committee?

The City of Glenn Heights Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was formed to: 

  • Increase the level of civic engagement of youth within the City of Glenn Heights
  • Build an interest in and provide exposure to the development of public policy
  • Add a new layer of insight by advising the Glenn Heights City Council concerning youth/teen issues and interests
  • Serve as youth liaisons to ancillary boards and commissions
  • Develop an alliance with community partners, school districts, and external organizations that have an interest in youth programming
  • Serve as ambassadors for the Community

Who Will Serve?

  • All representatives will be high school students 
  • This body shall consist of nine (9) members - seven (7) voting Board Members and two (2) alternates 
  • One adult sponsor
  • All members, including the sponsor, will be appointed by the City Council through an application process

What are the Service Terms?

  • YAC Board members shall serve a one-year term, from August to August
  • The adult sponsor must serve a two-year term
  • Meetings will be held monthly
  • Vacancies will be filled through alternates to be appointed by City Council
