BIOGRAPHY

Nelda Washington is the newly elected City Council Member for Place 6 in Glenn Heights, Texas. A native of Dallas, she is an accomplished singer-songwriter, pianist and educator who has dedicated over 35 years to the Dallas/Ft. Worth community.

Washington's career is defined by her dual passion for music and education. She is a composer and performer of the iconic "I Love School" song, which has aired on K104urban radio for over 30 years as a daily anthem to inspire local students. A retired elementary music teacher from Dallas ISD, she was recently inducted into the Dallas Metroplex musicians' Association Hall of Fame for her lifelong service to the arts. 

In her role on the City Council, Washington aims to bridge her artistic and educational background with civic leadership. She plans to use her musical platform for future community engagement, focusing programs that uplift local youth and keep constituents informed about city developments. 

Education and Affilations:

  • Graduate: Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts. 
  • Bachelor of Music: Piano Performance and Pedagogy, Oklahoma City University.
  • Master of Education: Educational Technology, Strayer University.
  • Civic Involvement: Member of the NAACP, Texas Educator Association (TMEA), and the Gateway Estates HOA.
